One of the things most associated with Gene Roddenberry and his "vision" for Star Trek was the ideal that in the future, mankind would achieve a kind of Utopia - a world where there was no more hunger, want, war or conflict. Does that vision still hold true today? Is Utopia possible? How did Star Trek and other popular culture items represent this kind of optimistic future, and how might entertainment of the near future envision it?
